Young Austinites who live downtown are starting to have kids, but they’re not ready to leave that urban lifestyle. KUT’s Andy Uhler talked with Tony Quesada, managing editor of Austin Business Journal, to discuss the lack of child-friendly amenities downtown.

It hasn’t really been the focus of development. In fact, we’ve seen downtown losing family-friendly amenities, and the most notable example is that the downtown children’s museum is moving. We’ve seen very few apartments or condos built with more than one or two bedrooms. If you have kids, and especially if you have boys and girls and you don’t want them sharing rooms, as they get a little bit older, it’s a tough choice.

Some local businesses may now be trying to take advantage of this gap in the market.

Well, it’s been identified by some as a business opportunity. The extent to which we see businesses really grabbing on to it remains to be seen.
