Council to Act on Development Fees

June 11, 2012 5:30 pm by: Andrew Uhler

The Austin City Council is scheduled to take action this week on a plan to increase development fees. The biggest increases are in fees associated with building permits and site plans.

Greg Guernsey, director of the Planning and Development Review Department, says that 90 percent of the fees haven’t changed since 1993.

“Basically the fees are out of date if you look at inflation, comparable cities and cost of service, and it’s bringing it back up to where it should be,” Guernsey said.

The budget amendment also calls for creating 11 jobs in the Planning Department to help with a backlog of unprocessed permits. If the council approves the amendment, the fees will go into effect on July 1.
