Florida-turned-New York duo Blonds are impossibly adorable. There’s hardly a photo of the boyfriend and girlfriend team Jordy Asher and Carie Rae where the two aren’t in some sort of embrace. But for all the lovey-dovey cuteness, from the cover art that’s graced their releases to their noir-pop sound, there’s definitely a dark streak to the band’s music and aesthetic.

Blonds is a young project, but one that’s on the up. Partners Asher and Rae began writing what would become their debut Dark Roots EP at the end of 2011. A mere six or seven months on, and they’ve moved from their South Florida home base to NYC, received some warm write-ups from Stereogum, Paste, The Deli Magazine (and more) and enlisted the help of producer Nicolas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Spoon) for their upcoming full-length debut The Bad Ones, which comes out in August.

In late May Blonds released the first single from The Bad Ones, and it’s today’s song of the day. “Run” is full of menace, from the reverb-drenched guitar lines that spike the beginning to Rae’s vampy vocals. The big dynamic shifts between quiet, torchy parts and wall-of-sound workouts makes the sinister tone that much more pronounced.
