Former Endochine frontman Casey McPherson formed Austin-based quintet Alpha Rev in 2005, and by 2007 the band made its official debut with The Greatest Thing I’ve Ever Learned. However, it wasn’t until the second album, New Morning (2010), that the Rev found itself quickly launched into more widespread fame.
The sophomore release was attached to some rather big names in the industry – recorded and mixed by producers David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes) and Micheal Brauer (Coldplay, U2). But it was a decidedly different and somewhat downplayed approach they took for last year’s EP, City Farm: Roots. Funded entirely by Alpha Rev fans and recorded live (all the band members performing single takes in the same room), it was recorded without a label backing, a completely opposite direction from to their previous experience. As the EP title suggests, it marked a return to the band’s roots.
You can see Alpha Rev at their show Friday night at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. It’s an early one-band show; doors open at 8 p.m., and Rev starts at 9 p.m. Great start to your Friday night, peeps. Check it out.
