Hays County residents gathered this morning to break ground on a new Austin Community College campus in Kyle.

The campus is a joint effort of ACC, the Hays school district and Texas State University.

“The purpose of all the ACC campuses is to partner and to team up with all the local school districts that service that same areas, as well as the universities in the area,” said ACC president and CEO Richard Rhodes. “This one just happens to be so close to Texas State University that they’ll probably be the primary partner for transferring.”

Rhodes said the campus will provide training programs that will fit well with the region’s economic development plans, which will lead to well-paying jobs.

The campus is expected to open in about two years.
