Without question, tUnE-yArDs delivers unconventional beauty. Words fail to appropriately capture something so captivating and so bizarre.

“Experimental” is too dismissive a description for this musical project of New England native Merrill Garbus. Everything about the music comes to life in quirky, compelling, wild turns with the use of multiple loops and layers, R&B beats and pop rhythms charming you in, and Garbus’ extraordinary voice – which is putting it mildly. Garbus wholly embraces the idea of deconstructing and redefining. The end result is always an adventure of uninhibited expression.

Don’t miss the tUnE-yArDs show Wednesday night at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the outside stage. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Starting out the evening is Austin band Deep Time (formerly Yellow Fever). Inside following the show, catch performances by electro-popsters  Borrisokane, indie rock quintet Schmillion, and pop trio Belaire, starting at 10 p.m. Superb all around.
