Hey, it’s May Day! We’re not really sure what that is, but it sounds like a heckuva good time, and we’re kind of annoyed that we didn’t get the day off to celebrate it.
Hopefully you’re luckier than us, and heading out for a big May Day feast or decorating your Maypole or something fun like that. If so, once you’ve had your fill of May Day carols, please consider listening to this podcast. After all, we’ve spent all May Day morning putting it together for you, so listening is the least you could do.
We’ve got a spanking new edition of 99% Invisible for you today. And, as is usual for producer Roman Mars, he’ll explore a topic in a way that most folks don’t think of. This episode, “Undesigned,” is all about the way our modern world was designed (or, as you might have guessed from the title, undesigned) to encourage the inefficient use of gasoline. Really interesting stuff.
And we’ve got something new from Aengus “Aengus with an e” Anderson. Usually, when we have something from Aengus with an e, it’s part of series in which he travels the country on his motorcycle interviewing folks. This piece, The Forgotten River, is great but a little different — it’s a stand alone work, not part of series, and Aengus mentions riding his bicycle! Has he forsaken the motorcycle? Probably not.
