The GOP race to replace Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison started with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst taking the lead in early polls and holding on to that lead throughout the campaign.
But an anti-establishment, ultraconservative movement in the primary has pushed former state Solicitor General Ted Cruz into a possible runoff with Dewhurst.
He’s led his campaign with a promise to repeal the federal healthcare law. He talked with KUT’s Ben Philpott this week.
The answer to, are there things the federal government should be doing, fortunately we don’t have to answer for ourselves; it was answered over 200 years ago. The framers of the Constitution, in Article I, Section 8, specified 20 enumerated powers of Congress, and those enumerated powers are Congress’ essential responsibility. So securing the border is explicitly given to Congress as a responsibility of the federal government, a responsibility the federal government is failing mightily.
