Voters head to the polls tomorrow to pick nominees in dozens of races in the Democratic and Republican primaries. With the nominations for president all but over, eyes have turned to the race to replace Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
The leader in the polls on the Republican side is Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. He talked to KUT’s Ben Philpott after a campaign event last week in downtown Austin.
There is not in our Constitution a requirement that the federal government be involved in the education of the children in the state of Texas, but there is a federal law requiring that each state have their own Medicaid program. And I’d like to see programs that should be state responsibilities funded by the states and run by the states, and I’d like to see programs that are put on us and mandated by the federal government paid for by the federal government.
