Chicago native Ramsey Lewis has been wowing audiences since the age of 15 when he began playing piano for the jazz band The Cleffs. Now 76, the bona-fide living legend has 3 Grammy Awards, 7 gold records, 3 honorary doctorates, and carried the Olympic torch for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. It was in 1965 that he hit the big time with the the songs chart topping pop songs The In Crowd, Hang on Sloopy, and Wade in the Water. The songs solidified Lewis’s crossover appeal but he never strayed far from his roots as a jazz pianist. Since the mid 90s Lewis has worked to promote Chicago and Illinois as a mecca for jazz musicians. Ramsey Lewis was in Austin for a show at the One World Theatre. You can listen to his performance live from Studio 1a with Jay Trachtenberg RIGHT HERE!
