Perry Declines to Weigh In on Powers
UT President Bill Powers objected to the regents' decision not to raise tuition at the Austin campus. Photo by Nathan Bernier/KUT NewsGov. Rick Perry isn’t saying what he thinks about the performance of the University of Texas at Austin’s president, Bill Powers.
Rumors began circulating last week that Powers’ job was in jeopardy after Powers criticized a decision by the UT system’s Board of Regents to freeze undergraduate tuition at UT for two years.
Asked whether he was satisfied with Powers today, Perry said that “I got a state to run” and that he isn’t focused on one campus.
The UT system chancellor has denied that he was asked to fire Powers.
