In West Texas, the oil industry is warning that if a tiny lizard there is put on the endangered species list, it could shut down the drilling that’s booming in the region. But that debate comes at a time when, as StateImpact Texas reporter Dave Fehling reports, one of the state’s most successful oil and gas men is being recognized by Texas for the extraordinary lengths he and his family have gone to to help save an endangered species.
For me, that’s the thing I’m most proud of is that our family as a whole prioritizes preserving this place even above all else. I mean, above their own access and their own financial gain, and anything else that could have been; other things could have happened here for sure.
