Originally hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, Nikki Lane headed out west as fast as she could. After working a few random jobs and playing just two promising shows, Lane left it all for a corporate job offer in New York City, but abandoned music for an entire year before heartbreak finally brought her back to her dream. She started learning country standards by Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn and others and soon enough she was headed to Nashville to record her debut album No Room for Cowboys. Lane returned to New York as a full-fledged musician and was soon signed to the indie label IAMSOUND, where she began working on material for last year’s Walk of Shame.

On Shame, we find Lane coming into her own, saying a forceful farewell to the South. Taking some notes from her country predecessors, she sings of heartache, one-night stands, leaving and lust. Nikki Lane is currently on tour with Spiritualized, but she stopped by KUT’s Studio 1A for a live performance, which you can listen to right here.
