Hope you’re enjoying a nice, long Memorial Day weekend! The Austin Music Minute would like to suggest a killer live show to make it even better, featuring an AMM favorite, Megafauna.

There are two sides to the story behind the music here: On one hand, there are details and subtleties that go into each Megafauna track, an intricate arrangement of textures, varying tempos, shoegaze and psych layers, and the intense, seductive power of frontwoman and guitarist Dani Neff’s striking voice. On the other hand, there’s the kind of sweltering rock-goddess brutality that brings on the face-melting. Their influences run the gamut, from classic rock to garage rock, punk and metal, to accompany the bone-rattling turbulence of Neff’s monster guitar riffs.

From their first full-length release Larger Than Human (2010) to their new EP Love Project, Megafauna presents a balance of sounds that redefines whatever “indie-rock” was supposed to mean. While they’ve changed the pace a bit this time, moving toward a more melodic progression, they do so without taking away from the intense rock elements that define their sound.

Don’t miss Megafauna at their show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the indoor stage. The bill also includes a set by Pi. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
