Austin’s Crooks boasts a whiskey-soaked sound that recalls ‘70s outlaw country. They first grabbed NPR’s attention with the song called “My First” which had a dusty, Southwestern feel (and it shows up on their brand-new album The Rain Will Come as “My First Gun”). Frontman Josh Mazour cites Townes Van Zandt and classic rock as inspirations, splitting the difference between the two while adding horns and Mazour’s distinctively Texan voice. Crooks have been on the short-list of “next big thing out of Austin” for a few years, and The Rain Will Come could put them over the top. You’re not going to want to miss this session live from Studio 1A with Jay Trachtenberg. LISTEN HERE!
