Republican Presidential candidate and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul will hold a rally in Austin this weekend with his son, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. The event will address, among other things, Ron Paul’s commitment to less government.

Paul recently claimed that 40,000 new laws landed on the books in one day, and KUT’s Emily Donahue turned to Gardner Selby of the Austin American Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas for a fact check.

They ran the numbers for us, and they found that legislatures across the country were in session everywhere, and 18,562 bills were passed into law. This does not count what we call non-statutory resolutions.
