People around the country are heading to Austin, but some are just coming for a quick trip. Austin ranked No. 22 on this year’s list of the top U.S. cities to visit compiled by the online travel website TripAdvisor.
Austin was listed behind both San Antonio and Houston; those two cities came in at 13 and 18, respectively. Lesley Carlin with TripAdvisor said these “Top 25 Destinations in the United States” are chosen by actual vacationers, not a bunch of travel writers.
“These are based on opinions of millions of real travelers around the world, so it’s not an editorial list,” Carlin said. “It’s really based on all the feedback we’ve gotten throughout the year from people who have been to Austin.”
Carlin says she thinks Austin made the list because there’s a lot of different stuff to do here, from outdoor activities to music festivals like South by Southwest and Austin City Limits.
According to recent data from comScore Media Metrix, 69.7 million Americans visited travel-information sites in March 2012. Of those, TripAdvisor Media Group drew 18.1 million, Travora Media had 15.5 million and Yahoo! Travel picked up 11.1 million.
