There’s a lot former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell doesn’t want to talk about. If you ask him about his training to becoming a SEAL, he’ll tell you it’s a long story… and that’s it. Though he does acknowledge it was originally his twin brother Morgan’s idea. If you ask him about the loss of fellow warriors sent to rescue him during a harrowing mission in Afghanistan, he grows quiet and says he does not want to talk about it.

But there’s also a lot the Texan Luttrell does want to talk about. He has started a foundation – the Lone Survivor Foundation – to help veterans and their families with education, rehabilitation, and recovery. He believes getting families involved is critical to the successful healing of veterans’ physical and emotional wounds.

And Marcus Luttrell likes to talk about service. It’s the title of his latest book, Service: a Navy SEAL at War, and a concept that’s been part of his family for as long as he can remember. He says military service is a tradition for the men in his family. He says the selfless sacrifice of military members is one of the hallmarks of their service.
