The New Movement isn’t just a comedy theater; in addition to nightly shows, they also offer improv classes, tour regularly, and work on film and television projects. For the past three years, though, they’ve been doing that work while based out of a former laundromat on Austin’s East Side. That space was small and had little foot traffic, so moving to a bigger and more visible theater space has been a longtime goal for the New Movement folks.

This weekend, that goal becomes a reality as they move into a new basement theater in a historic downtown building. Not only will they have a larger performance space, they’ll also have dedicated classrooms and 100% more bathrooms (they’re going from one to two).

This weekend they’ll be hosting a grand opening celebration at the new space, and then it’ll be business as usual for The New Movement, which means presenting comedy shows seven nights a week.
