Texas State University is getting ready to open a new business incubator for technology start-ups. Tony Quesada is the managing editor of the Austin Business Journal. He spoke with KUT’s Ben Philpott about this building for Science Technology and Advanced Research, or STAR Park.
Quesada:
It’s roughly a $7 million project, with a grant from the Emerging Technology Fund. They’re looking at things like aerospace, nano-materials, the concrete industry, then other types of engineering technology – all those things and more probably, in the future.
As we’ve seen, the distance between Austin and San Antonio – the two metros are starting to creep together. So when you look at San Marcos, that’s kind of right between them. They’re hoping that has some kind of synergistic advantages for companies to want to be right between those two metros.
The 20,000-square-foot building was designed by PhiloWilke of Houston.
