Welsh musician and multi-instrumentalist Karl Wallinger is best known by the moniker he uses for his solo work, World Party, a project he kicked off in 1986, after a year-long stint with The Waterboys. When you’ve been playing music as long as he has, it may seem like nothing will ever stop you, but 10 years ago Wallinger suffered a brain aneurysm which brought his career to a screeching halt. He was left unable to speak, much less play his music or sing. But he was determined to return to music, and in 2006, after 5 years in rehab, he made the trek to SXSW to play his first live show in years. Earlier this month, World Party released a 5-disc compilation album of previously unreleased material, including new songs, B-sides, covers, live sessions and assorted other recordings.
