Singer-songwriter Joe Pug has a seemingly superhuman work ethic, perhaps stemming from his days as a carpenter – days which ended just four years ago in order for him to pursue a career in music. Pug got his name out there much like most artists do these days, by releasing a handful of songs for free. Only he didn’t release them as a download, he printed up CDs on his own dime and mailed them out to whoever would request one in hopes that word of mouth would do its thing. Pug’s experiment blew up, with the demand for CDs both forcing him to make the switch to a download instead and earning him a deal with Lightning Rod Records. Next week, Joe Pug will be releasing his second album, The Great Despiser. In order to promote it, he’ll be playing two shows in Austin this week, and in store at Waterloo Records on Thursday and a show at the Parish on Saturday. Here is Joe Pug from Studio 1a. ENJOY!
