I can’t complain. There’s plenty of rock ‘n’ toll on the agenda this holiday weekend, including a show with this new band: Hot Rod Radio.
Basically, it all began with people moving into town. Vocalist and guitarist Ren Rentz got to Austin by way of South Carolina, and drummer Bill Davis moved here from San Diego. The two began collaborating on musical projects, and eventually decided it was time to pull a full band together to get the ball rolling. They were joined by guitarist Michael Sellman (formerly of LIONS), who moved to Austin from Pittsburgh – and coincidentally, “met the woman of his dreams” and future wife, bassist Jody Rivera.
Together, they mix it up with a barrage of garage, pop and and indie rock inspired by a wide range of influences, everything from Dion and The Belmonts to the Sex Pistols. Check ‘em out when they play Saturday night at The ND, located at 5th and Brushy. They go onstage at 9:30 p.m., followed by Casino Clocks and They Look Like Good Strong Hands. Indeed. Engines revved and ready to go. Recommended.
