Early voting for city elections begins a week from today. There are 14 candidates running for four positions on the Austin City Council. Over the next week or so, we’ll hear from each of them.

In Place 5, self-described anarchist and Occupy Austin member John Duffy is running to unseat incumbent Bill Spelman. KUT’s Wells Dunbar talked to Duffy about whether Austin’s growth is sustainable, and trying to institute change at the local level.

We can at least start saying, ‘Maybe we should draw a line.’ And that instead of just accepting that growth and doubling the population every 20 years is okay and also desirable, let’s say, ‘Okay, we’re going to try to just hold where we are and start using the space that we have and getting clever with it.’
