Named for the beloved, raspy-voiced character actor, Austin’s own Burgess Meredith crafts 60s-inspired pop tunes that are as infectious as they are quirky.

The band is a relatively new one, but it brings together a bevvy of veteran local musicians. The group was founded by Josh King of The Lemurs, John Vishnesky of The Bell Curve and Jesse Hester of The Polyphonic Spree and Sweet Lee Morrow. Joining the trio are Blue Mongeon from the Bankrupt and the Borrowers and East Cameron Folkcore on bass, Deidre Gott on harmony vocals and percussion and producer extraordinaire Danny Reisch on drums. It’s hard to argue with that much talent concentrated in one band.

This Saturday Burgess Meredith is playing at the Hotel Vegas to celebrate the release of the band’s debut EP Banana Moon. One of the stand-out tracks is today’s song of the day “Loving Man.” The song is a catchy, effervescent bit of psych-candy. It’s a gleeful jaunt, and it hints at bright future for Burgess Meredith.
