North Carolina folk trio Bowerbirds have always been about simple folk songs, attempting (and succeeding) to create new folk standards with their intricate three-part harmonies, guitar, violin, and drums – and that’s it. With their latest album, The Clearing, the band has expanded on that simple recipe to include pianos, electric guitars, vibraphones, and more drums to create an altogether bigger, more grandiose sound. And yet that sound is still wholly Bowerbirds. While the arrangements got bigger, the songwriting remained the same warm and joyful way it had been. They’re still making new folk standards, just this time they’re a little bigger. The Bowerbirds have a show at the Parish, and also, you can catch them live on KUT from studio 1a RIGHT HERE!
