Greetings from South-By central. I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, have a little handful of showcases to recommend to you while you’re out and about. The number of choices is a bit overwhelming, so hopefully this will help you in your selection process. Each of these showcases is happening tonight.

-First, there’s an official SX showcase with a great line-up tonight at Central Presbyterian Church, located downtown at 200 E. 8th St. Featuring M. Ward, songwriter from Belfast Foy Vance, California-based songwriter Tristen, and the remarkable Tel Aviv concert group My Sweet Canary Ensemble. The music starts at 7:30 p.m.

-I love what I’m hearing from the bands playing the official Monolathe Recordings showcase at Frank, located at 407 Colorado. A nice batch of new and familiar favorites, including Nashville-based songwriter David Vandervelde, alt.-rock/art-pop band from Copenhagen I Got You ON Tape, Austin indie rock quintet Dead Black Hearts, STEREO IS A LIE, and another great pick from Copenhagen (whose music was featured on today’s AMM), The Foreign Resort. The music starts at 9 p.m.

-I’m honored to be a part of this great event, presented by the fine bearded gents of the Austin Facial Hair Club (as seen on IFC’s Whisker Wars). It’s the Gallardo Productions showcase at The Grackle, 1700 E. 6th St. featuring Los Angeles indie-psych sextet Seasons, dynamic duo The Long Tangles, folk/country/punkhaus hoodlums Wild Bill & The Bearded Clams, indie ensemble One Hundred Flowers, psyched-up trio Megafauna, and rock warriors Tia Carrera. Things get started at 7 p.m.

Incredible. Are you exhausted yet? Enjoy the show(s), and there’ll be more recommendations coming your way tomorrow!
