This may very well be the same rant I have every year, triggering the all-too-familiar bout of high anxiety, but it still seems to sneak up and catch me off guard. It really feels as though the music portion of SXSW starts a little earlier each year. Sure enough (and to convince myself that I’m not crazy), I check the fest website. There it is. Right at the top of the home page: March 13 through 18.

Fortunately, this gives me, your Austin Music Minute hostess with the mostess Laurie Gallardo, plenty of material to work with. The AMM will be on hand throughout the week to provide recommendations of official South-By showcases and plenty of events off the beaten path.

There’s one that’s happening this weekend that caught my ear: “Hear There. Everywhere.”,  representing a great mix of local and global artists, presented in part by non-profit promotional organization Dart Music International. DMI acts as a sort of cultural ambassador by connecting people worldwide through music with concerts and various community programs. For this showcase, they’ve teamed up with the Austin Sister Cities Program and the University of Texas Willie Nelson Center Students for Peace to conduct informal discussions on international topics.

Here’s the performer line-up: Jabu Mbara (Austin by way of Lesotho); Kalu James (by way of Nigeria); Bandella (Canada/USA and, in their own words, “OUTER SPACE”); Zona Tango (Argentina); Karl Morgan (Australia); Anoraak (France); and Austin artists The Boxing Lesson, Lauren & the Black List, Tee Double, Bali Yaaah and Moonlight Social.

The showcase starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar, 506 West Ave. Recommended.
