16-piece outfit SpokFrevo Orquestra hails from Brazil and plays a genre of music native to their homeland: frevo. Frevo music is the generally traditionally associated with the Brazilian Carnival. However, SpokFrevo Orquestra plays the genre every way but traditionally. Their band leader, Inaldo Cavalcante “Spok” de Albuquerque, has always been inspired by the freewheeling and improvisational aspects of jazz, and brought that same feeling to frevo with his band. SpokFrevo’s improvising has made it a bit less of a friend to the traditional frevo community, but has made them famous both in Brazil and around the world. Tomorrow night, SpokFrevo Orquestra will perform at Bass Concert Hall. You can can check out their performance live from Studio 1a RIGHT HERE!
