Spiral Plexus is the third installation undertaken by Art on the Way, Austin’s new urban museum. Though still in its early stages, Art on the Way plans to one day host outdoor art installations across the city; they’ll seek community input as well, in an effort to create a museum that spans the city and is in part curated by the people of the city.

For this installation, artist Heather Tolleson has created a large steel armature that holds in place some 2000 “spinners” (the same sort of colorful plastic decorations you can buy at home or discount stores) to create a colorful outdoor sculpture that she calls “whimsical and strange and maybe just a little bit overwhelming.”

The sculpture is on display on the lawn of GSD&M, at Sixth and Lamar, and will be in place through June 9.
