Garbage men: You see them every week, but how much do you know about them?
A new film that had its world premiere at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival takes us inside the world of trash collectors in Austin and discovers something fascinating: They can make their trucks dance. KUT’s Terrence Henry spoke with director Andrew Garrison about Trash Dance, a collaboration between choreographer Allison Orr and a group of city garbage collectors.
It was an affirmation that people want to create, they are already creating, and coming together in that way seems like a small thing, but it really made something very deep and powerful happen. All these people have very busy lives, not just work but they’re all doing other things, and taking out their time to do something together made an impact on them directly.
