KUT at the Four Seasons: Wednesday, March 14

KUT is hosting some great shows at the Four Seasons during SXSW, AND there is no wristband required for entry. With the shows starting so early, you can count on a more intimate experience than what you might expect from those shows starting later on in the day. Here are the specifics: Each set is 25 minutes. There is a $10 entry fee with the proceeds going to Seton Shivers Cancer Center. Oh yeah, you also get a breakfast taco and coffee!
Lost in the Trees – 7AM

North Carolina-based band Lost in the Trees is Ari Picker’s pop passion project. The group started out as his one man bedroom recording enterprise, and since then has evolved to become something of a folk orchestra, with a full backing band and string section. In 2010, Lost in the Trees released their first album in their current, more orchestral iteration, called All Alone In An Empty House. The album was very well reviewed, and brought them national attention. With a follow-up album due very soon, Lost in the Trees will be at this year’s SXSW music festival, and will be playing as a part of KUT’s lineup at the Four Seasons at 7AM on Wednesday.
Grace Woodroofe – 8AM

Singer-songwriter Grace Woodroofe has enjoyed a near meteoric rise to notoriety in the music world. From her home in Perth, Australia, she recorded two demos for an Australian radio competition, which earned the attention of several music industry higher-ups in Los Angeles. Eventually, she found herself recording with producer Ben Harper and his band Relentless7. It’s no wonder that Woodroofe has been able to ascend this quickly, as a vocalist she has an amazing, warm and sometimes mournful voice that works beautifully with her equally impressive songwriting abilities. Grace Woodroofe will be a part of KUT’s SXSW lineup at the Four Seasons, performing at 8AM on Wednesday.
M. Ward – 9AM

The music of M. Ward has been an indie-folk staple since he showed up on the scene in 2001. Since then, he’s become known as much for his solo work as he has for his work as a collaborator. Throughout his career he’s been very open to teaming up with others, resulting in some amazing efforts, including his work as half of She & Him with actress Zooey Deschanel, and as a part of folk supergroup Monsters of Folk. His solo work also has served as a major influence on a new crop of indie-folk artist. He’s released seven solo albums, with an eighth due out in April. M. Ward will be performing at the Four Seasons as a part of KUT’s SXSW lineup on Wednesday at 9AM.
Cotton Mather – 10AM

Austin-based band Cotton Mather isn’t the most well-known band, but the influence of their 1997 album Kontiki is deep and widespread. The record was an enormous hit in the UK, and Noel Gallagher of Oasis has claimed it to be one of his favorites. Kontiki has also gone on to influence a great many of the Austin bands that are active today. The album was recently re-released in a slightly more deluxe flavor than before, and Cotton Mather is reuniting to perform the album throughout at this year’s SXSW. Cotton Mather is one of the bands that will be joining KUT at the Four Seasons for our SXSW lineup on Wednesday at 10AM.
