KUT 90.5 Named “Best Radio Station,” Cactus Cafe Named “Best Acoustic Venue” in Austin Chronicle Music Poll

Aielli, Brown, Denberg, Ray and Trachtenberg Recognized as Best Radio Personalities

AUSTIN, Texas—March 14, 2012—KUT 90.5, community supported public radio from Austin, Texas, has been named “Best Radio Station” in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll and will be honored tonight at the 30th annual Austin Music Awards.

KUT’s “Eklektikos,” which engages listeners with a mix of music that crosses all musical genres, was named “Best Music Program” and “Eklektikos” host John Aielli was named “Best Radio Personality.”

The Cactus Cafe, programmed by KUT, was named “Best Acoustic Venue.” Located on The University of Texas at Austin campus, the Cactus Cafe is an intimate live music performance venue with a national reputation for showcasing top local, national and international acoustic music acts.

KUT’s long-running rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and rockabilly program “Twine Time” and its host, Texas Radio Hall of Famer Paul Ray, placed fourth in the list of best radio programs and best radio personalities respectively.

“Texas Music Matters,” KUT’s award-winning signature music journalism program, was sixth on the list of best radio programs, while “Texas Music Matters” host and producer David Brown was fifth on the list of best radio personalities.

Jody Denberg, who hosts “Eklektikos” on Fridays, and afternoon music host Jay Trachtenberg were listed seventh and ninth respectively on the list of best radio personalities.

KUT was named “Best Radio Station” in last year’s poll and won the title during the first 10 years of Austin Chronicle’s annual music poll.
