At last week’s presidential debate, Texas Congressman Ron Paul said that Florida’s gas prices are so high that residents there are paying $6 a gallon to fill up. Watch the clip here.

Gardner Selby of the Austin-American Statesmen’s fact-checking project PolitiFact Texas joined KUT’s Nathan Bernier to discuss the veracity of Paul’s statement.

Selby:

“Paul is simply wrong. On the day after the debate, Feb. 22, the average price per gallon in Florida was $3.70. Two stations near the airport in Orlando, which of course is the gateway to the wonders of Disney in Florida, had prices close to $6 – $5.79 and $5.69 a gallon. Of course, locals know better than to buy their gas there. Paul’s claim rates ridiculous.”

rediculous? 5.79 sounds pretty close to $6.00 to me, whether you are a “local” or not. thanx for pouncing on this tiny over-estimation and using it to somehow discredit ron paul, the only candidate that has any clue about how to fix the debt crisis/bring our soldiers home. i was almost going to make a donation this year, but thanx to this “pants on fire rediculous” report, thats not going to happen. way to go KUT!!
