Battleme is the name of  Austin musician and Lions frontman Matt Drenik’s solo project. The project got under way in 2009, and almost immediately got recognition when his song “Burn This Town” was featured in the second season finale of FX series Sons of Anarchy. In the summer of 2010, Drenik retreated to Portland and buried himself in writing and recording tracks in hope of coming out with an album’s worth of material. He emerged more than victorious, with 40 songs, 10 of which landed in the hands of Ghostland Observatory’s Thomas Turner. Turner almost immediately signed him to his label. Battleme’s sound is more of a stripped down affair than Drenik’s work with Lions. Trading out loud rock guitars for more folk acoustic ones, the result is a little more singer/songwriter-y. Tomorrow night, Battleme will play a show at the Cactus Cafe. KUT had Battleme in Studio 1a and you can hear them right here!
