According to legend, Austin natives Band of Heathens sort of became a band by accident. Singer-songwriters Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist all played residency shows the same night at Momo’s, eventually they started playing with each other, collaborating on each other’s sets, and letting it all bleed together until they organically just became a band. Drummer John Chipman, bassist Seth Whitney and keyboard player Trevor Nealon eventually joined the lineup, and Colin Brooks left it at the beginning of the year. Almost unfazed by his departure, the band continues to play the creative Americana music that it’s been known for. Never short on energy for live shows, Band of Heathens departs on a tour next week. Before they left, the band stopped by Studio 1a to play a live set on KUT. You can listen to it right here!
