It’s very easy to exaggerate and say that someone has been “playing music their entire life,” I know I’ve been guilty of it on more than one occasion. But for Troy Andrews, that’s actually true. He played drums and a child’s trumpet at 3 years old. At 4 years old he was marching in a street parade in his home town of New Orleans playing a trombone twice as big as he was (which is also the origin story behind his nickname). In 2010, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue released their Grammy-nominated first album, Backatown, which they quickly followed up last year with For True. The band’s funk/pop/hip-hop blend has earned praise across the board for both their albums and their live shows. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be playing at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, you can hear them RIGHT HERE from Studio 1a.
