What a delight it is to get two great new tracks on the same piece of vinyl from two of your favorite local bands. What’s even better is a mammoth release show with loads of other great local bands to go along with it. Bam. Christmas came again for the Austin Music Minute maven in February.
The Sour Notes and Marmalakes teamed up through their creative collective, No Play Music to release WAIT // WHITE, recorded and produced for distribution entirely in DIY fashion on some very attractive white opague vinyl. The track by Marmalakes, “White Height,” takes the listener on an unexpected trip, marrying crisp poppy-goodness and harmonies with classic potent guitar unleashing dramatic rock flourishes. The Sour Notes’ track, “Two Hands Weight,” shows the band seamlessly progressing toward a more complex and high-end production (with horns, no less) of rather gorgeous, exhilarating pop magic.
You’ve got to check this out. And one way to do that is joining The Sour Notes and Marmalakes at their vinyl release show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Both stages at the Mohawk will be filled with stellar non-stop performances. The line-up is lightning-hot: SPEAK, Marmalakes, and Roky Moon & Bolt on the outdoor stage; The Calm Blue Sea, Follow That Bird, The Sour Notes, BUXTON, and Technicolor Hearts on the indoor stage. Doors open at 7 p.m. Don’t miss out on any of this. Recommended.
