Rick Santorum Comes to Austin for Fundraiser

February 24, 2012 5:39 pm by: Nathan Bernier

Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum was in Austin this morning for a private fundraiser.

He did not speak to reporters before, during or after his event at the Headliners Club downtown. State Rep. Paul Workman, R-Austin, was there.

“He says a lot of things that I agree with,” Workman said. “I’m a fiscal and social conservative. And he strikes me as being that as well. So there were probably 60 or so people that got an opportunity to meet him and hear what he had to say.”

Workman has not endorsed a candidate in the race.

A poll released Monday by the Texas Tribune and UT showed Santorum with a commanding lead in Texas, with the support of 45 percent of likely Republican voters. All the other candidates polled between 14 and 18 percent.
