Before singer Rebecca Butler formed a band, she ventured out with something more acoustic in mind. She opted to keep things simple with vocals, rhythm guitar, and not much else, save for a growing roster of musicians who would join her for shows, including guitarist Sam Ogden. But that was perfect at the time, offering ample opportunity to strengthen her repertoire.
It was also a time for Butler to discover her true voice, which is basically telling it like it is. There’s no holding back the personal details, no shrinking violet amidst the dulcet tones. By the time she’d assembled a full band early last year, things started moving more toward a rock/pop feel, with a bit of dance. Of course, the voice that Butler gives to her music is still the perfect touch – vibrant and melodic. And now on board are The Richards, including Ogden, bassist Patrick Young, drummer Jordan Cook, and keyboardist/ukelele player Pierce Saxon.
Don’t miss Rebecca Butler and The Richards perform Thursday night at Frank, at 4th and Colorado (407 Colorado). The line-up includes dark folk/chamber pop ensemble Les RAV, and folk rock trio Once Per Axis (featuring two of The Richards, Saxon and Cook). Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Check them all out.
