I’ve got the perfect solution to cure the Monday blahs, featuring the songwriter I refer to as “The Voice”: Paul Banks.

As you may recall, I never tire of sharing my favorite story about Banks, in which I enthusiastically proclaimed that his singing was so awesome that I wanted to marry his voice. This was, of course, in a public place with people listening. Not a common method of praise, but I can become just as giddy as the next music lover. Some music reviewers have even tossed around a few big names when describing Banks’ vocals: Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, even Thom Yorke. High compliments, indeed, for this introspective songwriter who has a way with awe-inspiring melodies, whether it’s pop, rock, or strains of classic jazz.. His voice swells and sweeps out of bounds as he pushes his vocals to differently levels.

You’ll definitely want to make time to catch Paul Banks & The Carousels at their performance tonight at The Mohawk, 912 Red River. It’s an impressive bill that includes Nashville artists Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes, and local band (and Austin Music Minute fave) The Lovely Sparrows (word has it the Sparrows will be sharing quite a few new tunes, so check it out). Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
