Charter Revision Vote

Austin is moving to closer to having city council members represent specific regions of the city. Last night, a panel appointed by city council voted in favor of single member districts. The Charter Revision Committee recommended the proposal be placed on the November ballot for Austin residents to decide. As KUT’s Erika Aguilar reports the vote was close, and the political battle is not over.

School Finance Fix

Calls are growing for Governor Perry should call a special session on education funding.  But as KUT’s Ben Philpott reports, there’s plenty of disagreement on what fixing the school funding system would actually mean.

Mitchie’s Gallery Rent Party

Tomorrow a good old fashioned rent party will rock the house of Mitchie’s Gallery in North Austin. The art gallery is considered an establishment in Austin’s art scene. For twenty years, the gallery has encouraged black artists and has served as hub for community activism. But as KUT’s Erika Aguilar reports, the future of Mitchie’s Gallery hangs on one night.
