KUT 90.5 Presents KUT “Live at the Four Seasons” and Comprehensive Coverage of SXSW Music Festival
Fans will Discover New Music and Experience SXSW KUT.org and KUT 90.5
AUSTIN, Texas — Feb. 22, 2012 — KUT 90.5 is bringing the best of the 2012 SXSW Music Festival to fans in Central Texas and beyond, including thoughtfully curated music line-ups, spotlights on Austin musicians, a preview of must-see performances and some of the best new music discoveries from the festival.
KUT will produce four KUT “Live at the Four Seasons” music showcases at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin Wednesday, March 14, through Saturday, March 17. The event will feature 30-minute sets by some of SXSW’s most anticipated artists, including: M. Ward, Nada Surf, Justin Townes Earle, Nneka, Jimmy Cliff, Ruthie Foster, Punch Brothers, Motopony, Grace Woodruff, Ray Wylie Hubbard and more being confirmed (check KUT.org for updates). Each set also will be broadcast on KUT 90.5.
The event is open to the public on a first-come, first served basis. The $10 admission, which includes a breakfast taco and coffee, benefits the Shivers Cancer Center at Seton Hospital. This event is made possible thanks to the support of Strait Music Company.
Those looking for tips on not-to-miss performances and up-and-coming artists will want to tune into KUT’s Texas Music Matters’ annual preview special, “The List,” at noon and again at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 9. “The List” will be available for download on KUT.org after 1 p.m. CST March 9.
Texas Music Matters’ coverage continues Monday, March 12, as KUT’s Jody Denberg reveals the first of the 2012 “Austin Aces,” five musicians who have established themselves as essential to the Austin Music Experience. Denberg will profile one artist per day Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Previous “Austin Aces” have included Stephen Bruton, Cindy Cashdollar, Patty Griffin, David Grissom, Lloyd Maines and Charlie Sexton, among others.
KUT will broadcast live Wednesday night, March 14, from Stubbs’ BBQ as the official kickoff event, the NPR Music showcase gets underway. Performers include Andrew Bird, Alabama Shakes, Dan Deacon and Sharon Van Etten. KUT will rebroadcast the most memorable performances throughout the week during our midday and evening music shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
As co-sponsors of this year’s Austin Music Awards, KUT will be backstage at the Wednesday, March 14, event, gathering interviews with the big winners and bringing you SXSW updates throughout the week — both on the air during our newscasts and online at KUT.org
Friday afternoon, March 16, the SXSW Radio Day Stage at the Austin Convention Center will feature Blitzen Trapper and Heartless Bastards, celebrating their brand new release “Arrow.” KUT will give away a substantial number of passes for this showcase curated by KUT and public radio stations KCRW, WXPN, WFUV, KEXP and The Current.
KUT’s regularly scheduled music programs will feature live sessions from all over town, including a special SXSW 2012 wrap-up show from 7 to 11 p.m., hosted by KUT’s Susan Castle, on Saturday night, March 17.
KUT’s Song of the Day, will air at 1:30 p.m. each day during SXSW and will be available as a free download from KUT.org. Our website also will include video of music moments from throughout SXSW – from onstage, on the streets to behind the scenes – thanks to Storyboard, KUT’s multimedia production unit.
