All You Need is Love
Ruben Paul Salazar and Rachel Perez Salazar of Waco, Texas, first met over email when their almost-identical email addresses caused some misdirected messages. One thing lead to another, and they eventually met and got married. Their interview is included in a new compilation of StoryCorps interviews focused on love. According to the Beatles, “All You Need is Love.” Well, they might just be right. StoryCorps, which provides people time and space to record conversations with their loved ones, has logged about 40,000 interviews in the eight-plus years it has been operating. StoryCorps founder Dave Isay says in all those interviews, the theme that crops up more than any other is love.
So the StoryCorps crew decided to publish a collection of selected interviews about love in a new book called “All There Is: Love Stories from StoryCorps“. Love has many meanings, but for the purposes of this collection, they stuck with stories about romantic love — love found and love lost.
“It’s really just a book about hope,” Isay says. “Because when you read these stories together, you see that when you least expect it, love can enter your life in one way or another.”
The StoryCorps mobile booth is parked in Austin recording stories from Central Texans through February 5, 2012. Dave Isay will visit Austin on Saturday, February 11, to speak at BookPeople.
