I tend to get on quite a rave about dynamic duos. Great things really do come in two’s, at least in terms of some of my favorite bands. And it always intrigues me to find the kind of powerhouse sound you get from two people making music. The Kills do that quite nicely, and then some.

There’s no mistaking The Kills’ sound. Featuring Allison Mosshart on vocals and guitarist Jamie Hince, the duo fires up an intense chemistry of bone-rattling rock tailored with wicked beats and synths, like a hybrid of pop and punk donning multiple layers. You’re immersed in this cool, lo-fi, melodic balladry of blues, on top of jazz, on top of fuzz, basking in nonstop pulsating percussion that gets you on your feet. But keeping it raw has always been the key for Mosshart and Hince since their debut in the early 2000′s. It’s subversive with style.

This is one of the best. Don’t miss The Kills’ show Wednesday night at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, 801 Red River. Opening the show are two other killer acts: Jeff the Brotherhood (a Texas Music Matters favorite), and Hunter. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. This one comes recommended.
