The duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince have performed under the name The Kills for over a decade now. Together they create dirty, 21st century, transmogrified electric blues complete with loops, hard beats and other bits of electronic wizardry.
Way back in the year 2000 the pair began writing together. But for Floridian Mosshart and English Hince trading tapes across the ocean began to get difficult. Mosshart crossed the pond and The Kills was born. The duo recorded three records, including 2008′s fantastic Midnight Boom, before going on short hiatus while Mosshart worked with Jack White in the band Dead Weather. In 2011 Mosshart and Hince regrouped to release their fourth album Blood Pressures.
On today’s song of the day, The Kills recorded a stripped-down version of their song “Nail In My Coffin” in a recent visit to KUT’s Studio 1A. The version that appears on Blood Pressures is hard-charging, strutting blues electronica. But here, even without all the electronic sturm und drang and armed with only an acoustic guitar and their voices The Kills create a dreamy, almost psychedelic, version of the tune.
