The Hideout is known as one of Austin’s top improv comedy venues, and the folks there present a wide range of shows. Most of those shows, however, are aimed at adults only. So when, a few years ago, a handful of improv performers who are also parents started talking about putting on a show that their own kids could enjoy, the Flying Theatre Machine was born.

Every Sunday afternoon at the Hideout, the Flying Theatre Machine puts on a show that’s just for the kids. Fueled by suggestions from the children in the audience, the performers put on an improvised, kid-friendly original show every week. The format changes up every two months; currently, they’re performing The Adventure Room, in which a room full of inanimate objects comes to life to take a bored child on an adventure.
