StoryCorps Comes to Austin

January 4, 2012 4:23 pm by: Mike Lee

At last count, there are 1.7 million people living in Central Texas and every one of us has something to tell. This week, StoryCorps rolled into town with their mobile booth and will soon give you an opportunity to share your story.

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives. Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 30,000 interviews from more than 60,000 participants. The project is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind.

StoryCorps does this to remind one another of our shared humanity, strengthen and build the connections between people, teach the value of listening, and weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that every life matters.

The StoryCorps mobile booth made it to Austin on January 3, and we were on hand to capture its arrival at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
