In his new book, “Smart Thinking”, University of Texas at Austin psychology professor Art Markman explores the science of learning to think smart.
He writes about strategies for training yourself to solve problems creatively. KUT’s Matt Largey sat down with Markman to talk about the book, and he says solving problems in innovative ways isn’t just something that comes naturally.
If you think about it, we spend a lot of time focusing on intelligence tests and ‘is someone smart to begin with?’ and we track kids from early on in school. But the fact is, while there are definitely difference between people in how they score on intelligence tests, so much of what influences how effective we are as thinkers in the world depends on what we know and our ability to use our knowledge. And that’s really under our control.
Markman will be at BookPeople to talk more about the book on Wednesday January 4 at 7 pm. Details are here.
