Sandy Creek Power Accident
Rolling blackouts struck Texas once last year. And we went to the brink twice after that. So when an accident at the Sandy Creek power plant outside of Waco delayed more electricity from coming online, it came at exactly the wrong time. For StateImpact Texas, KUT’s Mose Buchele reports.
STAAR Implementation Hearing
Texas lawmakers took some time to review how schools are planning to implement a new standardized test next year. It’s called the STAAR test. That stands for State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. KUT’s Ben Philpott reports on questions and concerns some have about the state’s newest school accountability exam.
City Upgrades Swimming Holes
Swimmers looking for a winter dip at Deep Eddy Pool will be out of luck for the next few months. Construction is proceeding on one of Austin’s favorite swimming holes as part of a bond package approved by voters in 2006. Gretch Sanders reports the project is just one piece of the City’s plan to upgrade its aquatics facilities.
